I was lucky enough to be asked to photograph a fellow photographer friend’s newborn baby. While she was here, she very generously offered to use my spare camera to catch a few behind the scenes moments of me doing what I love. Here’s a sneak peak into my work world. Enjoy!
Here’s our next set-up. Please excuse the big sweat mark on my back. I was 30 weeks pregnant and had 2 space heaters blowing on me. It was hot! If you had your newborn photos done with me while I was pregnant, the shirt I’m wearing probably looks familiar to you. I wore it for 90% of my newborn shoots the past few months because I always like to wear a neutral color so I don’t put any sort of color cast on the baby. I also keep my hair pulled back so that I don’t get any stray strands in front of the lens. My wedding rings come off too so that I don’t scratch the baby or snag the blankets with them.
This is the final set-up we did. Harper was waking up again but we were able to keep her asleep just long enough to get this shot, thanks to her pacifier. Out of all of the instructions I give to parents prior to their newborn session, the number one most important thing is to bring a pacifier! Even if it’s not something they use regularly, this can truly make or break the photo session!
